Big temperature contrast across NW and SE North America continues to bring anomalous winter conditions across the continent, with extreme frosts in Western and Central Canada, Western and Northern USA, and winter heatwaves above Southern and Eastern USA.
Heatwaves and tornado outbreaks are a subject of our investigation here: /https://mkweather.com/kentucky-like-tornadoes-for-the-usa-in-january-and-february-2022-cfs-sees-extreme-temperature-differences-across-the-continent-and-sharp-frontal-boundaries-for-midwest-southeast/; https://mkweather.com/people-in-the-usa-in-short-t-shirts-outside-the-hottest-christmas-in-the-usa-ever-texas-96f-36c-oklahoma-86f-30c-illinois-75f-24c/; https://mkweather.com/the-warmest-christmas-in-history-the-usa-hit-tropical-heatwaves-farms-and-ranches-in-texas-are-in-fire/; https://mkweather.com/after-the-christmas-heatwave-the-next-possible-tornado-outbreak-in-the-usa-between-28-31-december-2021/; https://mkweather.com/breaking-ef4-tornado-in-kentucky-killed-50-people-it-was-historic-winter-supercell/; https://mkweather.com/record-heatwaves-the-strongest-storms-since-2004-and-the-next-tornado-outbreak-december-in-the-usa/; https://mkweather.com/the-first-december-tornado-outbreak-in-minnesota-in-all-time-history-7-tornadoes-caused-damages/; https://mkweather.com/chicago-with-the-latest-first-snowfall-in-history///.
Extreme coldwaves were described in these articles: https://mkweather.com/canada-511c-the-first-50c-and-lower-temperature-in-december-since-1998/; https://mkweather.com/vancouver-canada-hit-the-coldest-temperatures-in-52-years-153c/; https://mkweather.com/seattle-with-the-coldest-day-since-1990-and-the-coldest-night-since-the-legendary-year-2010/.
Now we should look at the newest data from the USA.
On 28. December 2021, only -38°F / -38,9°C was measured in Montana, while on 29. December 2021, Alabama (Andalusia) reported tropical 87°F / +30,6°C.
This sharp temperature gradient already on 30. December in the evening and on the second wave of storms on 1. January 2022, too, should bring severe storm rounds above Midwest and Southeast – again mainly Kentucky region, where gusting storms, hail, heavy rains, severe lighting, or even tornado reports will be after time possible.
Tornado outbreaks in the region according to long-term forecasts should continue in January 2022 and February 2022 /https://mkweather.com/kentucky-like-tornadoes-for-the-usa-in-january-and-february-2022-cfs-sees-extreme-temperature-differences-across-the-continent-and-sharp-frontal-boundaries-for-midwest-southeast// and the sharp temperature gradient between Northwest and Southeast will be well-preserved.
Meanwhile, Minnesota expects up to 18 inches / 46 cm these days and Chicago already hit the first snowfall of the season /https://mkweather.com/chicago-with-the-latest-first-snowfall-in-history//.
If you live in regions with expected severe Arctic blasts or tornado outbreaks, we recommend you to watch current weather news, forecasts, warnings, and advisories.
