
Storm system within an ITCZ (Intertropical Convergence Zone) hit between Monday and Wednesday 5.-7. July 2021 a few countries in western Africa.
The worst manifestations the system brought into the Gambia, mainly the region of the capital, Banjul, where 10 people were killed by floods and severe winds.
According to the International Exchange Site, 54 mm of rain dropped in the selected period in the city.
ITCZ will be in the next 16 days situated between Equator and Sahel region, from the Gambia to Yemen, in the region, but gradually, its shift above the Sahel is expected, with a possibility of widespread flood in this sensitive region to climate change.
The heaviest rainfall is forecasted in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, southern Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, southernmost Niger, Nigeria, northern Cameroon, southern Chad, Central African Republic, South Sudan, southern Sudan, northern DR Congo, northern and western Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, western Yemen and southwesternmost Saudi Arabia until 26. July 2021.
Egypt, Libya, parts of Algeria, Tunisia, Spain, Portugal, northern Middle East, southern Turkey, Sicily, Crete, or Iran stay without any precipitation in the next period.
