In Antarctica, a mostly cooling trend since the year 2000 is observed.
While in May 2025, so far (1.-16.5.2025), mostly low geopotential / air pressure is reported from the Arctic, in Antarctica is situation opposite, with mainly high geopotential / air pressure anomalies.
The lowest temperature on record he satellites detected – minus 136°F (minus 93,2°C), on 10. August 2010. The new record is several degrees colder than the previous low of minus 128,6°F (minus 89,2°C), set in 1983 at the Russian Vostok Research Station in East Antarctica.
