The 2nd Exceptional Heat Wave of Summer 2025 Grips Europe, Records Shattered Across the Continent
Europe is currently in the grip of an extraordinary and early-season heat wave, with temperatures breaking records from the Mediterranean to Central Europe and even parts of Northern Europe bracing for unprecedented warmth in the coming days.
🔥 Record-Breaking Heat in France and Germany
- France recorded a blistering 38.1°C in Pruniers, while a monthly temperature record was shattered in Rocroi with 32.5°C, previously unthinkable for this time of year in the northern part of the country.
- In Germany, temperatures soared to 34.7°C, marking one of the hottest June days ever observed before the summer solstice.
🌙 A Historic Night Ahead
Meteorologists are warning that the next night could be the warmest pre-solstice night in recorded history across vast areas of France, Germany, Switzerland, and the Benelux countries.
Many stations are expected to record their earliest tropical night ever, with minimum temperatures staying above 20°C, and in some cases even approaching 25°C — something more typical of August than mid-June.
☀️ Mediterranean and North African Heat Surges
The heat remains relentless in Greece, where parts of the country have now recorded 4 consecutive tropical nights, with nighttime lows between 28°C and 30°C.
In Turkey, temperatures have surged to 46.9°C, while in Algeria (Adrar), minimum nighttime temperatures have shockingly remained above 34°C, underscoring the ferocity of this regional heat dome.
🌡️ What’s Next: More Intense Heat on the Horizon
Meteorologists are sounding the alarm that the current wave is only the beginning:
- A new and even stronger heat wave is forming over Morocco, Spain, Portugal, and southern France, set to intensify starting early next week.
- Spain is forecast to experience widespread 40°C+ temperatures from south to north, potentially setting national records for June.
