Between June 15 and 16, 2025, a strong weather system brought heavy rain and severe flooding across parts of Italy, Austria, and Germany, following a path roughly from Bologna in northern Italy northeastwards to Dresden in Germany.
Rainfall totals reached 50 – 100 mm regionally.
Italy
- Flood reports are concentrated mainly in northern Italy.
- There are several flood points near the Po Valley region, consistent with heavy rainfall flooding low-lying areas.
- Flooding likely affected towns and cities in the northern plains and foothills of the Alps.
- This corresponds with typical summer flooding triggered by thunderstorms or prolonged rain in northern Italy.
Austria
- Multiple flood points are visible across central and eastern Austria.
- The floods appear concentrated around the regions of Upper Austria (Oberösterreich) and Styria (Steiermark).
- Flooding here often involves river overflows and flash floods in mountainous or hilly terrain.
Germany
- Flooding is mainly concentrated in southern and eastern Germany.
- Notable clusters are seen in Bavaria (Bayern), particularly around Munich and northeast toward Saxony (Sachsen).
- Flooding extends northwards toward central Germany but becomes less dense.
- These flood points likely indicate riverine floods, urban flooding, and flash floods following heavy rainfall.
