Spain is set to experience the next significant heatwave this week, with the American Global Forecast System (GFS) model predicting temperatures soaring up to 46°C in parts of the country. This extreme heat is expected to impact regions such as Andalusia, Castile-La Mancha, and Extremadura, with Madrid potentially reaching highs of 40°C or more.
🔥 Heatwave Overview
The GFS model, which runs four times daily and provides forecasts up to 16 days in advance, has indicated that a massive heat dome will settle over the Iberian Peninsula. This atmospheric phenomenon traps hot air over the region, leading to prolonged periods of high temperatures.
According to the GFS model, Madrid is expected to experience highs of 40°C on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29. Other areas, particularly in the southern and central parts of Spain, may see temperatures approaching or exceeding 46°C.
⚠️ Health and Safety Concerns
The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow warning for extreme high temperatures in the Metropolitana y Henares area of Madrid, effective from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM CEST on Tuesday, June 24. This warning indicates a moderate risk of heat-related health issues, especially for vulnerable individuals.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and seek air-conditioned environments when possible.
