
As of July 5, 2025, Invest 96E, a low-pressure system located approximately 313 miles (503 km) south of Manzanillo, Colima, is showing signs of organization in the Eastern Pacific. The system is moving west-northwest at 12 knots (22 km/h) and has maximum sustained winds near 25 knots (45 km/h) with a minimum pressure of 1010 mb.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has indicated a medium (60%) chance of the system developing into a Tropical Depression within the next 48 hours, and a high (80%) chance over the next 7 days . If the system strengthens, it is expected to become Tropical Storm Gil.
Residents along the southwestern coast of Mexico, particularly in Colima, Jalisco, and Guerrero, should monitor the system’s progress. While no immediate threats are posed, conditions can change rapidly, and preparedness is essential during the active Eastern Pacific hurricane season, which runs from May 15 to November 30.
