
Extreme heatwave according to expectations hit NW Africa and Iberia at the weekend, 10.-11. July 2021 and although abnormal outputs up to +49°C for Spain haven´t been confirmed, regionally were broken all-time temperature records and some regions reported one of the hottest days in all-time history.
While in Morocco, all-time records were broken, in parts of Spain it was one of the hottest days ever.
Already on Saturday, 10. July was in Morocco anomalously hot – Fes Airport reported +46,4°C (all time record tied), Meknes +46,8°C (previous record +46.4°C) and Larache +46,4°C (previous record +45,4°C).
On Sunday, 11. July, temperatures in Morocco were even more extreme, Oujda reported +47,3°C – a new all-time record for the station!
All-time records on Sunday have fallen in Algeria, too, in Bordj-Bou-Arreridj, +43,6°C, while in Mascara +46,9°C was measured.
One of the hottest days ever appeared in parts of Spain – in Villarobledo, +44,5°C was on Sunday, 11. Extremely hot, up to +43,2°C was in Spain already on Saturday, 10. July (Morón de la Frontera).
In Portugal, the hottest was in Evora, both days, +41,5°C.
In Madrid, +40,5°C, in Granada +42,6°C, in Toledo +42,3°C, in Cordoba +42,2°C or in Sevilla +42,1°C was at the weekend measured.
Chance for +45°C will be here locally on Monday, too, in the Murcia region.
In southern France (Le Luc), the temperature reached +35,9°C so far, but after 20. July, above +40°C should be in the region measured.
