
May 2025 will end in many parts of Europe as cold or very cold with temperature anomalies in Belarus, Lithuania, most of Poland, Latvia, Ukraine and parts of Slovakia, Hungary, Czechia, Estonia, Romania, Moldova and European Russia with temperature anomaly below -3°C, so far, until 20. May 2025. E.g. in Lithuania, -5,8°C, in Belarus, -5,2°C, in the UK, -4,7°C, or in Hungary, -4,4°C was in May 2025 measured.
On 20. May 2025, the next cold mornings appeared, e.g. in Ocna Sugatag, Romania (-0,5°C), Aboyne, the UK (-0,2°C) or Usak Meydan, Turkey (-0,2°C). On 22. May 2025, -1,8°C was measured in Altnaharra, the UK, an the following 2 mornings – Friday and Saturday, 23.-24. May, temperatures up to -5°C should appear rarely in continental Europe and the British Islands.
Significant warming effect is however prepared for the start of Summer 2025 in Europe, with temperatures gradually above +40°C in parts of Spain and Portugal, +38°C in France, +28°C in the UK and later, up to record-breaking +42°C in central Italy , or +37°C in Hungary (according to the newest GFS outputs /for regional records, +3°C is needed to add/). Many parts of continental Europe from France to Ukraine on the West and East and from Denmark to Hungary on the North and South, should see tropical temperatures +30/+35°C already around 5. June 2025, which should bring many historic and temperature records!
Moreover, heatwaves should persist in Europe minimally until mid-July, with shorter breaks with T-storms, generating flash floods, large hail, gusty winds, damaging lightening or even tornadoes.
According to the newest information, heatwaves will be the strongest around 5. and around 25. June (+/-5 days).
In the last hours appeared severe storms with 6 cm hail and flash floods in France and at the end of the article, we are joining the next information about extreme May Iceland heatwave, with maximum temperatures up to +26,6°C.
