The Caribbean is currently experiencing one of the most unprecedented heat waves in its recorded history. Relentless high temperatures, coupled with extreme humidity, are shattering records across multiple islands.
Last night, Montego Bay in Jamaica registered a minimum temperature of 28.0°C, marking the hottest July night in the country’s history—tied with the previous record.
What makes this event particularly remarkable is that such extreme nighttime temperatures severely limit human recovery from daily heat stress, especially in areas with limited access to cooling.
Across the Caribbean basin, numerous stations are reporting record-breaking maximum and minimum temperatures, often exceeding norms by several degrees. The combination of sea surface warming, stagnant air masses, and high atmospheric humidity has created a dangerous heat environment, both during the day and night.
This historic heat episode is part of a global pattern of record-breaking temperatures in July 2025, adding to a growing list of climate extremes around the world.
