Severe heatwaves are occupying Saharan and Sahel region, with all-time high temperature for the station of Guezzam, Algeria, with Tmax +47,2°C this week.
Meanwhile, the Mediterranean low brought severe and deadly floods in parts of Algeria and Tunisia this week.
+47,0°C in Faya, Chad, +46,8°C in Bilma Niger, was measured. The next days will be even hotter with a potential record for Chad, with the hottest day and the hottest night in history. (+34°C/+48°C)
Tmins up to +35°C appeared in Senegal and +36°C in Mali, were observed.
In equatorial Africa, +35,3°C in Franceville, Gabon – a new May record and Tmin of +27,0°C appeared in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea as the hottest night in history.
In South Africa and Namibia is continuing insane almost winter heatwave, with +39,9°C in Alexander Baaai, South Africa. This is the most extreme event the Southern Hemisphere has ever experienced.
South African coast is 10°C+ hotter than mid summer average!
In Namibia, Tmin of +25,9°C in Walvis Bay appeared, the hottest night in Namibian history.
+35,1°C in Lamberts Bay In Namibia, +37,3°C in Walvis Bay and +36,8°C in Luderitz was observed, too.
+39,5°C in Komatidraai and +35,1°C in Port Edward was measured in previous days.
Juan de Nova Island in Indian Ocean reported minimum of +28,6°C which is the highest ever recorded in May in the whole French Southern Territories.
The hottest May night appeared in Seychelles, +28,6°C and in Mauritius, +27,9°C.
Reports from Somalia are summarizing fatalities after floods in Mogadishu. In DR Congo, 109 were killed near floods last week.
