Before an arrival of cold front, has surprised in the last 48 hours a heatwave in Greece, Cyprus, Turkey and southwesternmost Russia, especially in Crete, Greece, where record and supertropical +36,0°C was measured. Villages in Crete reported up to +36,0°C, Heraklion +35,0°C, Nicosia, Cyprus +32,4°C, Aydin, Turkey, +32,7°C, Komsomolskij, Russia, +30,8°C.
Only a few hundred kilometers northward, extreme storms with a tornado in Romania and large egg-sized hail in Romania and Bulgaria were damaging cities and villages.
In Burgas, Bulgaria, 101 km/h winds were measured.
Severe storms and floods after 101 mm rainfall hit main international stations in Italy, too.
After frosts up to -4,7°C in the UK and -4,5°C in Belarus, in the last days, the next very cold mornigns were observed across Europe on 7.-8. May 2025: from chosen station were interesting May temperatures observed in:

Maximum temperatures regionally drop to +10/+5°C, locally in valleys below 1000 MASL, below +5°C, with a local snowfall.
Snowfall surprised Leningrad region, Russia, too.
Cold weather with morning frosts 0/-5°C and regional daily Tmaxes +5/+10°C will stay in continental Europe until circa 15. May.
Then, from SW will traditionally come the next heatwave, with some warm days from 16. to 20. May in Western and Southwestern Europe, between. 20.-25. May 2025 already in Continental Europe and even Scandinavia, where temperatures up to +30°C, maybe +33°C are forecast to be observed (including Sweden and Finland (!)).
Heavy rains and floods are predicted in the next 2 weeks mainly in Italy and Balkan.

Extreme heatwaves are returning into the Middle East and Central Asia (more in our May weather reports)
Oman, Iran and UAE reports up to +47°C (Oman Tmins +39°C! – Al Amerat,Semail broke their records with >5C margin!), Turkmenistan reported +40,8°C, Uzbekistan +40,2°C (Tmins +27°C in highlands!) and Tajikistan +39,2°C only in springtime. Kungrad reported Tmin +24°C.
Moreover, the first +50°C in the Middle East is coming in the next days very early in the season.
Cyprus should see in the next days its earliest +40°C in history.
Meanwhile, Mumbai in India hit coldest temperatures in 40 years and near Srinagar, large landslide was captured on video.
Thanks to La Nina, IOD- and PDO-, heatwaves, but with storms are occupying SE Asia. Temperatures up to +37°C are bothering Borneo and Sulawesi, Indonesia. Vietnam and Singapore report Tmins around +30°C, Thailand even with heat indexes above +50°C, India reports Tmins almost +38°C in the Lakshadweep Islands). The weekend will be terrible in Thailand with heat indexes up to +55°C.

SEVERE LANDSLIDE NEAR SRINAGAR, KASHMIR, INDIA
South America
South-South American heatwave in northern Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and southernmost Brazil already surprised in Serido, Brazil, with a new May record of +38,9°C.
It will be hotter next days with heat up to +40°C spreading to Bolivia and Paraguay.
Meanwhile, the north of the continent is still set to floods (Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana region and northern Amazon).
+39°C IN BRAZIL IN LATE AUTUMN
Africa
While Algeria and Tunisia were hit by large hail, up to 7 cm (materials below), many parts of Africa are bothered by heatwaves or floods.
Floods are reported from equatorial and subequatorial regions, and heatwaves from deserts and tropical regions, but too mid-latitudes in southernmost and northernmost parts.
+41°C was already measured on the Libyan coast, and in the next days, Libya and Egypt expect +45°C with Tmins above +30°C.
South Africa and Namibia in late Autumn still report +37°C.
Western Africa set new temperature records – Ghana with Tmin +28,8°C in Wa, Togo Tmin +29,6°X in Dapaong and Senegal, Niger and Burkina Faso Tmins +30/+32°C.

Historic +38,2°C in late Autumn was recorded in Carnarvon (relentless record heat continues in Australia May records was broken), Western Australia. +36,8°C was measured in Kalbarri, +28,0°C in Merimbula and +26,2°C in Jervis Bay.
Perth reports above +30°C and the next heatwaves for the continent are prepared in the next period.
Meanwhile, Tasmania reported snow in the mountains after record warm weather.
