
On Thursday, next European heatwave starts with maximum temperatures up to +42,6°C in Montaro, Spain /aemet.es/, +38,8°C in Castelo Branco, Portugal, +38,5°C in Cazaux, France, +33,2°C in Chievres, Belgium, +33,1°C in Trier-Petrisberg, Germany, +32,6°C in Arcen, Netherlands, +30,8°C in Holbeak, Denmark and +30,8°C in Gladhammar, Sweden.
Hot air from previous heatwave stayed in northeastern Balkan and Eastern Europe, with maximum temperature +35,7°C in Tiraspol, Moldova, +35,5°C in Galati, Romania, +35,1°C in Kryvij Ryh, Ukraine, +32,9°C in Bragin, Belarus, in +32,6°C in Zahony, Hungary, +32,3°C in Negotin, Serbia but too in southern parts of Greece, +34,2°C in Alexandroupoli, while N/NW Greece and west Balkan were still under storm attack.
On Friday, up to +41°C is predicted for France and +35°C for England – London area. +35/+37 degrees Celsius will be reached over Benelux and parts of Germany during the period Friday 7. August – Wednesday 12. August 2020.
In Germany, tropical temperatures will be continuing almost up to 20. August, in Eastern and Southern Central Europe even longer. Powerful heatwave will be persist over Mediterranean too, with possible temperatures up to +45°C in Spain and Italy (in southern Italy during fohn / sirocco events).
In Eastern parts of central Europe, temperatures up to +36/+37°C are possible. Tropical air will reach far to east and north – tropical days up to +32/+33°C are waiting Poland Baltic countries, Belarus, Norway, Sweden and Finland too.
First breathe of autumn could arrive after 20. August – GFS is expecting colder air over northwestern, western, northern and gradually central Europe too, with maximum temperatures slightly above +20°C in densely populated regions.
We have ahead of us the most powerful heatwave (intensity, duration, impacted area) of summer 2020. Although maximum temperatures can be little less than during previous, it will be the longest heatwave of summer 2020. Use that time therefore for holidays, vacations, work in garden, being near water, going to the mountains or other summer activities. Older persons should be careful with drinking regime and long-term stay in the sun.
