
First decade of September 2020 in equatorial and subequatorial Africa is accompanied with severe storms and wide-spead flooding. In many states will continue summer stormy period with deadly effects and displacing of hundred-thousands.
Severe conditions are reported mainly from Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Senegal, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Cameroon and Mali.
Thousands homes and wide areas of crops have been destroyed in the states of Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi and Sokoto, northern Nigeria, early September 2020. As many as 30 people are thought to have died. Next severe storms occurred on Wednesday 9. September 2020 in southern states and coast.
In Niger, 329,958 people have been affected, over 31,960 houses strongly damaged or destroyed and 65 people have died.
Floods have killed at least 13 people and injured 19 in Burkina Faso after heavy rain period.
4 people have died as a result of recent flooding in northern Ghana last days.
Least 6 people have died as result of flooding in several parts of Senegal on 5. and 6. September in Dakar, Kaolack and Sédhiou region.
Almost 120,000 people were displaced by flooding in Chad. The Lake Region has recorded the highest rainfall in nearly 30 years.
In Sudan, over 506,000 people have been affected since mid-July, with more than 110,000 in September 2020, mainly in Khartoum, North Darfur and Sennar states. Nearly 100 people died, 46 people have been injured, over 100,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged. River Nile water levels continue to increase, after reaching 17.4 metres, the highest in 100 years.
More than 600,000 people have been displaced by flooding in South Sudan since July,
Floods affecting over 5,000 people in Cameron in August. Next flooding was reported in the area in early September, with over 1,500 families displaced in Maroua region.
In Mali, in August 2020, more than 13,200 people were affected by floods, mainly in regions are Gao, Mopti, Ségou and Sikasso. 1,160 homes have been destroyed.
