The last peak of Winter 2021/2022 between 18.-31. January? Central Europe is preparing for extreme frosts (from -20°C to -30°C is in wider estimate possible)
After a few days, we should update the forecast about an upcoming very, gradually possibly extremely cold period in European regions.
Firstly, we will look at Central Europe, where the strengthening of frosts will start already around 18. January 2022.
According to the coldest runs, severe coldwave should be lasting from 18. January 2022 to early February 2022, with an extreme peak around 31. January, with temperatures up to -30°C in valleys and basins below 1000 MASL.
According to warmer variants, all cold will occur during a week 18.-24. January 2022, with frosts only below -20°C in valleys and basins below 1000 MASL.
In every case, it should be the last longer and stronger period of winter in the current season, because in February and March 2022, early-spring conditions are predicted /https://mkweather.com/spring-2022-will-come-in-february-nao-and-extremely-warm-early-spring-conditions-in-february-and-march-2022-are-predicted-cfs-ecmwf//.
The Alps, the Carpathians, and the eastern half of Poland should find themselves under 10-30, in the mountains above 50 cm of snowfall, in lowlands, snowfall should be weaker, which should make larger differences between lowlands without a snow cover and valleys and basins with a deep snow cover.
Frosts -5/-10°C in metropolitan regions, in valleys up to -17°C, later -10/-15°C in metropolitan regions, in valleys up to -20°C or -30°C are very possible.
There is not fully clear, if after 25. January early-spring conditions will come from Western Europe prematurely, or winter will be strengthening, so far.
Above Western Europe, almost any snowfall is predicted, although, mornings should be thanks to pressure high very cold, temporarily.
Severe frosts should be associated with health problems and limitations of outdoor activities for a longer time therefore will stay safe and warm.
In the next Mkweather articles, we will look at the next European regions and their outlook for the upcoming coldwave.
