Winter hit the warmest region in Europe! Cordoba, Andalusia +1,2°C, Sierra Nevada -12,2°C, and heavy snowfall!
Temperatures around 10°C below seasonal average, snow and frosts in the mountains and lower situated basins and valleys and very cold weather, with ground frosts in metropolitan areas!
Arctic air has already arrived in Andalusia, Spain, with surprisingly strong effects!
Spanish media are telling about the very early arrival of winter.
In Cordoba, one of the warmest cities in Europe and possibly hottest metropolitan area in Europe reported on Tuesday, 23. November minimum temperature only +1,2°C and ground frosts.
On Thursday, 25. November, the maximum temperature in the city reached only +11,9°C.
The minimum temperature from Tuesday is only 4,8°C warmer temperature than the coldest record for the city for the month of November in all-time history!
Normally, temperatures are moving in Cordoba around 8°C at the night and 20°C during the day in this period.
Even colder was in the Sierra Nevada, above 2500 MASL, where 20-40 cm of snowfall is already reported.
The temperature on Tuesday, 23. November reached only -12,2°C – this temperature is almost 10°C below the November averages.
The maximum temperature reached here on Wednesday, 24. November 2021 only -7,4°C.
Frosts 0/-1°C were reported from Viseu and Braganca regions (600-700 MASL), Portugal, too.
A peak of extremely cold weather in Iberia is forecasted already at the weekend, then frosts and snowing should appear around 3. December 2021, yet, but with lower intensity.
