Temperatures deeply below zero and in parts of the southeastern quarter of Europe not only a peak of Winter 2021/2022 but a possible the coldest times in history.
It was a reality of the last days in Balkan, East-Central Europe, Ukraine, Greece, Turkey, or even NE Africa and the northern Middle East.
While in Greece and Turkey, the worst blizzard in decades appeared, with up to 50 cm of snow in Athens and up to 36 cm in Istanbul (and measurable snowfall in Antalya, Mugla or Dalaman: https://mkweather.com/the-worst-blizzard-in-greece-since-1968-athens-50-cm-istanbul-turkey-36-cm-of-snow-florina-173c-and-a-rare-tornado-near-a-snow-covered-island/; https://mkweather.com/antalya-mugla-and-dalaman-turkey-with-the-first-snowfall-since-1993-a-country-with-the-strongest-power-outages-in-history/), western Balkan reported extreme frosts up to -33,4°C in Montenegro /https://mkweather.com/a-historic-siberian-winter-in-balkan-montenegro-with-an-all-time-national-record-kosanica-334c// -31,1°C in Serbia /https://mkweather.com/a-peak-of-winter-2021-2022-in-balkan-karajukica-bunari-serbia-311c// and -29,5°C in Bosnia and Herzegovina /https://mkweather.com/possible-absolute-temperature-records-in-parts-of-bosnia-and-herzegovina-sitnica-295c//.
In the last days, however, extremely cold mornings appeared in other countries in the region, too, with the strongest frosts within the International Exchange Site in Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, or Bulgaria.
In Miercurea Ciuc, Romania, -22,2°C was on 25. January 2022 measured. It´s very possible, that in valleys below 1000 MASL, rarely temperatures up to -30°C should appear.
Červený Kláštor in Slovakia was the coldest on 24. January 2022, with a minimum temperature of -21,6°C (SHMU).
In Ukraine, -20,9°C was measured in Ivano-Frankivsk and -19,0°C in Lviv -19,0°C in the last days, but it´s possible, that in the Carpathians should be even colder, up to -25°C.
The next peak of cold weather is predicted in Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, and Ukraine on 29. January 2022, but big peaks of extremely cold weather for Ukraine are predicted around 31. January and 6. February 2022, with a very possible peaking of Winter 2021/2022 in the country.
