Not only extremely rare, historic event – the first snowfall since 1893 in Xiamen, southern China /https://mkweather.com/xiamen-china-the-first-snowing-since-1893-extremely-rare//, but anomalously strong cold front in Southeastern Asia, too, with snowing and frosts in elevations below 1500 MASL and very poor weather conditions in tropical parts of Asia!
The strongest cooldown was in the last days after the cold front’s arrival reported from northern Vietnam, where frosts up to -0,4°C were measured in Mount Mao Son (1600m, Lang Son Province).
Moreover, many densely populated places elevated only around 1500 MASL hit surprising snowfall or ice precipitation, damaging harvest and forcing people to dress in winter clothes.
In Sa Pa, Vietnam, 1581 MASL, the minimum temperature dropped from 22. to 23. February 2022 only to +0,6°C, while maximum temperatures reached on 21. and 22. February 2022 only +2,3°C and +2,4°C.
In Hanoi (7 MASL), the Vietnamese capital, the minimum temperature on 20. February 2022 reached only +8,5°C and the maximum temperature only +10,7°C.
Very cold weather was reported from Hong Kong, where Tai Moh Shan Peak (955m) reported only +0,6°C and the Nong Ping (593m) only +2,9°C.
Tapei in Taiwan (9 MASL) reported on 20. February the minimum temperature only +10,3°C and the maximum temperature +12,3°C.
In Bounneua, Laos, 1360 MASL, the minimum temperature reached only +4,0°C on 21. February 2022 and the maximum temperature only +7,5°C on 23. February 2022.
Doi Ang Khang , Thailand, 1529 MASL, reported the minimum temperature only +10,0°C on 23. February 2022 and the maximum temperature only +16,7°C on 24. February 2022.
This coldwave should be regionally the worst or one from the worst since March 2011, when Arctic air came above the SE Asian countries from the northwest (now it came from the northeast).
