The very rare, historic event appeared a few days in Xiamen, southern China, only 24°N.
Into a strongly subtropical climate in southern China, arrived a powerful cold front, which caused a cooldown to only +4,2°C in the city, with regular snow sleet/snow showers during a windy and extremely cold event.
An all-time February record for the city is +2,6°C, therefore, the temperature was near precipitation only 1,6°C from the historic monthly record.
According to meteorological records from the city, snowing appeared in the last time in Xiamen only in 1893, it means, before a long 129 years!
A thin snow cover from sleets immediately covered the ground and some photos with snow were even captured.
Locations around Xiamen, people said they have never seen snow or cold temperatures like this.
Unexpectedly strong coldwave hit in the last period Southeastern Asia, including Taiwan, Vietnam, or Thailand.
In Vietnam, frosts up to -0,4°C, in Taiwan only +0,6°C appeared (the next Mkweather article) and very low-temperature anomalies appeared above tropical countries.
