Oymyakon hit extreme frosts, almost -40°C!

Very close minimum temperatures to all-time temperature records for this season hit Eastern Siberia, mainly the Yakutsk region.

At the night from 31. October to 1. November 2021, -38,9°C was in Oymyakon measured /https://ogimet.com/cgi-bin/gsynres?ind=24688&ano=2021&mes=11&day=1&hora=8&min=0&ndays=30/ what is the lowest temperature of Winter season 2021/2022, so far.

It´s only 8°C above all-time records for this season, which are moving around -47°C.

If a temperature anomaly like this appeared in winter, e.g. in the middle of January, the city would report around -64°C.

In Oymyakon is a monument built around the town square commemorating an unofficial reading in January 1924 of −71.2°C (−96.2°F).

In February 1933, -67,7°C and in February 1892 in Verkhoyansk -67,8°C was measured, such official records.

Colder is only Antarctica, with an official record -89,2°C from July 1983.

The region is expecting a very cold start of winter, with a possible peaking around early January 2022 according to our and Russian Winter 2021/2022 forecasts /https://mkweather.com/winter-2021-2022-forecast-for-europe-early-extreme-arctic-and-siberian-blasts-and-blizzards-late-dry-and-very-warm-conditions/https://mkweather.com/winter-2021-2022-forecast-extreme-frosts-in-eurasia-in-december-in-north-america-in-february-early-canadian-stratospheric-warming-ne-pacific-blob-la-nina-qbo-and-shift-from-nao-to-nao-such-le/https://mkweather.com/winter-2021-2022-forecast-chances-for-white-christmas-2021-are-higher-than-usual-a-hope-for-nao-and-return-of-winter-conditions-in-february/; https://mkweather.com/russian-meteorologists-expect-extreme-winter-around-december-january-2021-22//.

In the last winter, Winter 2020/2021, an anomalous pressure pattern appeared above Mongolia and the Aleutian region (1094,3 hPa versus 921 hPa) /information is available on our old webpage: https://mkweather.com/10943-hpa-mongolia-with-the-highest-measured-air-pressure-on-earth-in-history/; https://mkweather.com/the-most-broken-circulation-on-earth-in-history-aleutian-low-921-hpa-equal-to-a-category-5-hurricane-deepest-within-all-time-records//, with a result of long-term coldwaves across Northern Hemisphere, especially Europe, where cold conditions had persisted until late May 2021.
