In the series of the next Mkweather articles, we will shift into the USA, or, at least, the North American sector.
Firstly we will look at extremely cold weather in Hawaii, which since the start of December reported anomalously cold weather, with snow in the mountains and floods in lower situated regions, mainly in metropolitan coastal cities.
In Honolulu, Hawaii capital, on 5. December 2021, a maximum temperature reached of only 70°F / +21°C, which is the coldest daily temperature in a tropical paradise since January 1979!
The minimum temperature in Honolulu dropped only to 56°F / 13°C, which is 3°F below a seasonal record from 1962.
In Wahiawa was even colder, only 55°F /interval 12-13°C/.
Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa found themselves under a deep snow cover and a regular blizzard was reported.
Before a blizzard were valid warnings of NOAA, too.
Meanwhile, in lower elevated regions, heavy rainfall was observed, up to 14 inches / 356 mm in 48 hours.
Series of extremely cold temperature records in the last 2 weeks appeared thanks to powerful AO-/NAO- phases with a combination of a surprisingly cold Arctic in many regions of the Northern Hemisphere:
