Now, we will shift to Morocco, where snowfall hit several provinces.
The Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) predicted already on 26. January 2022, that the snowfall will hit the provinces of Azilal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Errachidia, Midelt, and Ouarzazate, with the level of snowfall expected to range between 20 and 40 centimeters in the mentioned provinces /source: https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/01/346746/morocco-forecasts-snowfall-in-several-provinces/.
The decrease of rainfall in the last period has raised concerns among farmers as rainfalls are significant for Morocco’s agriculture sector, which contributes considerably to Morocco’s economy therefore current rainfall and snowfall is for the country very important (the agriculture sector contributed around 12.23% to Morocco’s GDP).
From lower elevated cities, snowfall appeared e.g. in Tinejad, elevated in 1000 MASL in the Atlas Mountains.
The snowfall the 5th time in around 50 years appeared before a short time in Ain Sefra, Algeria, too /https://mkweather.com/snowing-in-sahara-is-more-and-more-frequent-4-of-5-snowfalls-in-ain-sefra-algeria-occurred-after-2016-including-the-last-days-batna-algeria-70c//.
Snow even appeared in Canary Islands /https://mkweather.com/snow-in-the-canary-islands//.
Severe winter conditions should continue according to the newest estimates will be lasting in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia shorter than in Libya, Egypt, Turkey, and the Middle East /https://mkweather.com/ecmwf-forecast-for-europe-until-14-march-2022-early-spring-for-the-british-islands-scandinavia-continental-europe-and-iberia/; https://mkweather.com/early-spring-should-be-peaking-around-13-27-february-2022-nao-in-march-2022-will-be-even-warmer//.
Morocco, therefore, should be one of the first North-African countries, which will see early-spring conditions, together with Iberia, Western Europe, British Islands, Scandinavia, and continental Europe, thanks to NAO+, in the next weeks.
